ALGERIA'S COMMITMENT

To The Paris Agreement And Net Zero 2050

...
Algeria is committed to the Paris Agreement, having set a target to reduce its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 7% unconditionally by 2030, with the potential to increase this reduction to 22% with international support. Algeria is also working towards the ambitious goal of achieving Net Zero emissions by 2050. Central to Algeria’s climate strategy is the enhancement of energy efficiency across its government and commercial buildings, sectors that significantly contribute to the nation’s energy consumption and GHG emissions.

However, Algeria faces substantial challenges, including outdated energy systems that lead to high energy consumption and financial constraints that hinder investments in energy-efficient technologies. ESCO Financial addresses these challenges by removing financial barriers through its Energy Efficiency-as-a-Service (EEaaS) model. This approach enables Algeria to upgrade critical energy systems such as HVAC units, boilers, chillers, smart controls, motors, compressors, air handling units, and lighting systems without requiring upfront capital. These upgrades help Algeria significantly reduce energy consumption and GHG emissions.

The International Performance Measurement and Verification Protocol (IPMVP) is crucial in this process, providing a standardized method to measure and verify energy savings, ensuring that Algeria's energy efficiency measures result in tangible carbon reductions. This verified data supports Algeria’s commitments under the Paris Agreement and attracts further international investment.
Algeria also faces significant challenges in managing waste, particularly the reliance on landfills, which contribute to methane emissions—a potent greenhouse gas. ESCO Financial’s Waste-to-Energy-as-a-Service (WtEaaS) model offers Algeria a solution by converting waste into energy, thus reducing landfill dependency and methane emissions. This approach aligns with Algeria’s Paris Agreement goals, helping the country accelerate its path to Net Zero by 2050.
